Here are my main areas of focus when I work with clients on given projects. When I work on retainer, I typically perform quite a few of these functions. When I work with a client on a project basis, we usually focus on one or two of these activities:
- Brand Strategy – Lead positioning exercises for new brands; shepherd re-branding; create and review brand guidelines
- Brand Marketing – Develop coherent, compelling campaigns that generate strong brand engagement across diverse media channels
- Creative Direction – Create new campaign concepts for online and offline media; review concepts and collateral created by agencies or in-house teams to improve results
- Strategic Communications – Work with Managing Directors, CEOs, founders, and principals to craft compelling business plans, investor communications, internal communications, and public statements
- Consumer & Competitive Insight – Analyze consumer attitudes and competitor activity to guide strategy
- Content Development – Craft engaging content strategies for the web and social media; advise on best practice for user interface development
- Copywriting – Write short and long-form copy for Web, print, radio, and TV along with other marketing collateral
- Public Relations – Create PR plans and write pitches, releases, and articles promoting clients; provide guidance on reputation management
- In-House Team Development – Build and structure in-house teams to efficiently handle creative and communications workloads; review candidate resumes and portfolios; interview candidates
- Agency Evaluation – Guide RFP process for new brand, creative, or media agency selection; review existing relationships
